Nintendo Wi-Fi Usb Connector and Ubuntu

I went to Wal Mart (not my first choice, but only store within an hour and a half drive to carry the device) in Owen Sound to pick up the Nintendo Wi-Fi usb connector to try out on my Wii. It said on the label of the packaging that it was for Windows XP only. I got home, fired up my one Linux box (Ubuntu 7.0.4), plugged in afore mentioned usb connector, fired up my Wii and did a bit of configuring, and it worked! YES!! It was literally plug and play! I did run into a small snag and that was in regards to the wireless router and Wii Channels such as Wii Shop and the Wii News Channels. I had to change the router channel from six to either one or eleven (either worked for me) and it has been connecting fine ever since. I do not have any games for the Wii that are online at the moment (I have Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Zelda: Twilight Princess), perhaps in the (distant) future I’ll pick up a few more titles.

But in short, the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector WILL work with Ubuntu.

  1. Hello

Would it be possible that u explain how you did it?

I tried a lot of times and i just can’t make it work with Ubuntu

  2. I agree. I’d like to know how you did it. I’m trying to get it to work myself at the moment.

  3. Cool. I live near Owen Sound as well.

I think the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector is based on the Ralink RT2570, so did you end up using the rt2×00 driver with it?
